Hope Africa Collective operates an on-site print shop (The Printery) which functions as a Social Enterprise contributing to our mission with 100% of all profit helping to fund our programmes. We are currently seeking a dedicated and proficient Print Shop Assistant Manager to join our team. This full-time (M-F), self-funded volunteer position requires a minimum commitment of one year, with longer-term engagement preferred.

As a Print Shop Assistant Manager, you will be integral to the daily operations, working closely with our current Manager (also a full-time international volunteer, who established the shop) to further scale our operations. Your role will be diverse, assisting in the management and operation of our range of printing equipment, which includes screen printing, large format digital printing, and laser cutting and engraving. A wide range of skills will be developed including customer engagement, business management, job quotation, order production and delivery.

This role is crucial to our organization: all proceeds from The Printery provide critical supplemental funding for our programmes. Our aim is to scale current operations to improve sustainability (both for our print shop and for long-term funding of the organization) and ultimately to broaden the reach of our programmes. As Assistant Print Shop Manager, you will come alongside the Print Shop Manager to play a key part in casting the vision for and achieving these goals, strengthening, and expanding our current operations.

  • Assisting in the development and management of client relationships through product delivery. This will include but not be limited to: sales and marketing, job quoting, production and delivery.
  • Managing and operating a variety of printing equipment to deliver high-quality products.
  • Helping to coordinate and oversee print shop projects, ensuring they are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Communicating effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Helping to ensure the print shop adheres to operational standards and safety regulations.
Requirements

  • A passion for bringing transformation to the community.
  • Proven experience in print shop management or a related field. Experience in a leadership role would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency with printing equipment and software, particularly Adobe Illustrator.
  • Strong organizational/administrative, business, and project management skills. Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work well in a team and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Desire to relocate to and work in a cross-cultural context.
  • Self-funded (As this is a volunteer/missionary role, you must fundraise and maintain your own financial support)
  • Must qualify for and be able to obtain a South African Volunteer visa.
  • Must be able to communicate well in the English language, both verbally and in writing.

This team of international volunteers/missionaries work together to provide guidance & orientation for new volunteers as they get settled with housing & transportation and provide ongoing support to one another.
