3-Year-Old in Denver Makes a Difference in Africa

Taylor was working in his backyard garden in Denver, transplanting tomato plants.

As he scooped soil with his shovel and moved things around in the dirt, he noticed his three-year-old, Benjamin, mimicking his every movement. This went on for almost 30 minutes—quite impressive for a toddler! When all the work was done, Taylor thanked his son and asked why he had been such a big help. Benjamin didn’t hesitate: “Because I love you, Dad!”

In that instant, Taylor was reminded—through the words of his little boy—that God wants us to join Him in His work, simply because we love Him and are loved by Him. As the Apostle Paul put it in 2 Corinthians 5:14, “For the love of Christ compels us…”

That love inspired Taylor and his wife Meggan to do something incredible.

Back in their high school days, they’d both traveled overseas on short-term mission trips. Now a married couple in their early thirties with two young children, they longed to continue making a difference in the world. As partners with Hope Africa Collective, their financial support was already changing lives in South Africa. But they felt God’s love compelling them to do more…

Taylor and Meggan wanted to share with others about the work of Hope Africa and the ways they could be involved. So they hosted a fundraising dinner at a local country club, complete with live music and a silent auction, and invited 50 of their friends! After the meal, Taylor played a short video about our holistic development program and shared from his heart about their own experience of partnering with us. He invited his friends to join them in their commitment to make an impact through our ministry.

And you know what happened?

By the end of the night, over $4,000 was raised in support of Hope Africa! The funds made it possible for 30 students to be equipped and empowered to break the poverty cycle. This room full of individuals came together and collectively changed the stories of those 30 students, their families, and their communities—forever.

All because two ordinary people chose to let God use their time, influence, creativity, and voice to do something extraordinary.

God loves to take the small fish-and-loaves lunch we have and multiply it into something miraculous!

What do you feel the love of God compelling you to do?

We would love for you to leverage your skills and creative ideas to partner with us in unique ways.

Maybe that means using your gift of photography to help tell the story of what God is doing in Africa… Or perhaps hosting an event similar to Taylor and Meggan, or gathering friends to your house for coffee, dessert, and African tales… Or maybe offering your blogging skills to help spread the word about Hope Africa…

Your part matters. It really does.

We can’t overcome extreme poverty alone. But together? We can make a world of difference.
