Grand Openings!

We recently celebrated the grand opening of two more hair salons!

If you remember, our beauty school training program teaches women not only hair cutting and styling techniques, but also business operations and financial management. Upon completion of the program, graduates are responsible for securing a location to operate their salon. Then Hope Africa funds and builds the salons — constructed in shipping containers by the men in our trade skills program!

This is just one way we’re helping people break out of the cycle of poverty and into one of sustainability.

Cindy’s grand opening fell on a cold and rainy day, keeping the crowd smaller than usual, but that didn’t stop the celebration. Cindy lives in the township just behind the Hope Africa base. She is a single mother of two, who worked diligently to complete the training program. She was dedicated and determined to fulfill her dream of owning her own salon, and that dream has just become a reality!

As a single mother of five, with the youngest just six months old, Anne had to work especially hard to attend and complete the training course. Driven by her desire to support and provide for her family, she was faithful to give her all in every aspect of the program, and it paid off! The grand opening was a true celebration, complete with singing and dancing — and the national news even came to report about it! Anne shared how blown away she is and how much gratitude she has in her heart. “The thing I keep telling myself is, ‘Wow! God really does love me.'” Yes, Anne… Yes, He does!

This is what empowerment looks like, friends. This is what differentiates our work from charitable assistance. This is what it means to defend dignity while empowering those in poverty.

Thank you for engaging with us in this vital work!
